Words matter: learning services, not treatment

Scrabble tiles saying ‘choose your words’

As parents, we want the best for our children. We want them to succeed and thrive, to learn and grow. But what happens when our child has a learning difference? The words we use to describe the services we seek for our child can have a powerful impact on how they view themselves and their abilities.

At Joyful Learning Services, we choose to use the term "learning services" instead of "treatment" or "therapy." Why? Because these terms can carry negative connotations for children. They can make children feel like something is wrong with them that needs to be fixed. But we believe that children with learning differences simply have different needs and require a different approach to learning.

Our goal is not to change or fix your child. Instead, we offer learning services that are tailored to their individual needs and learning style. We work to teach them in a way that they understand and to give them the skills they need to succeed. Our approach is focused on helping them learn and grow, not on changing who they are.

We understand the power of language and strive to use words that are empowering and affirming for your child. By using the term "learning services," we hope to convey that our work is about helping your child learn and grow, not about fixing a problem. We believe that every child has the potential to succeed, and we are here to help them reach their goals.
